George of A Images Achieves a Milestone – 501 OMP Showcases

Showcases are a unique feature of One Model Place, and every model and member has at one point coveted one of the special tags on their photos to signify exceptional artistry, creativity, or technical prowess.

While it still remains a mystery how exactly OMP Showcases are awarded, one photographer seems to have cracked the code -- George (OMP Member #4921) of A Images.

George has shot images over 20 years on a casual basis, but got more involved in photography a decade ago. Since joining the site in 2001, George has consistently uploaded incredible imagery and has been rewarded for it. As of this week, he has reached a plateau that few if any have attained – George has 501 Showcases out of 501 images. Looking at the Showcase section on his page is like visiting an art gallery filled with provocative, evocative nude portraits and compelling close-ups.

His interest in the photographic arts came from an unlikely source. “Many years ago, I was chatting with my girlfriend’s father, and we discussed his passion for photography. He noticed I had an interest, so he proceeded to retrieve his favorite camera, a Nikon F. He showed me all the settings, told me what to consider when shooting, and provided sample images. He then gave me an old rangefinder camera -- I think it was a 35mm Petri -- and I was forever hooked! I started to shoot everything: friends, buildings, sports events. My girlfriend was my first female shoot – I hope she never reads this!”

Subsequently, school and varies jobs occupied his time, but George continued to shoot, and effortlessly making the transition from shooting friends to professional models.”

He first discovered and signed up for One Model Place back in 2001. “I had just completed a shoot and while looking through the images, I was told I should consider posting some of my photos on some of the popular model websites. She thought my images looked good, and said it would be fun and that I would receive some valuable comments. When I asked which site to join, she recommended One Model Place. Initially, I was hesitant, but I decided to post some shots, and ever since I stayed with OMP. “

While George still considers photography more of a hobby than a career, he feels that OMP has given him the opportunity to meet some wonderful models and photographers. “The models, in particular, have helped me improve my photo skills and shape my image style. Actually, my image success is due solely to their creative talents and supportive efforts.”

He recalls getting his first Showcase image and his record-breaking 501st. “In the beginning, I just posted some basis fine art photos on One Model Place, and one day I noticed the Showcase designation next to one of my images. I really paid no attention to it until, while surfing the site, a photographer or model commented on the Showcase concept. So I again checked out my page and saw the designation. I was pleased, and thought it was real cool! In fact, it was a shot of the model who had suggested I post on OMP.

George wanted to full circle when selecting which image to upload for his potential portfolio-topping 501st photo. “Regarding my last Showcase image, I posted another image of the same model. I thought I would be nice to start and close with her images, but the OMP folks did not go for it. I then decided to do something a little different (I usually shoot fine art nudes/glamour) using available light in a shower. I was lucky because the model I wanted to shoot was available. She was perfect. I really had nothing to do with the shot, she did it all -- the pose, movement, emotion. I just stood there, pointed the camera, and shot. The result was Showcase number 501.”

Choosing which OMP models he has enjoyed working with the most proves to be difficult for George, who has had so many amazing muses over the years. “Answering this question is difficult. Each model contributes something different and meaningful, and I try to enhance the effect by showing the beauty/mood/emotion the model projects. Probably my OMP profile speaks for itself. There are many images posted for just a handful of models. Obviously, those images tell the story. If you view the profile you can readily see which models have impacted my image style the most. In fact, I have enjoyed working with all of the OMP models posted in my profile.

“But I will mention one, Dorothy (OMP Model# 2720). I have been shooting with her continually over 7 years, and every time the results are outstanding -- mainly due to her efforts. Not only is she a great model, she is also a wonderful person who brings something very special to the process. She has also introduced me to several other wonderful models who have contributed immensely to my imagery. Honestly, I could not have reached the 501 mark without her assistance.”

He offers some insightful words of advice for photographers who are just starting out. “Carefully study the beauty surrounding us all. Examine various lighting situations. Listen to what your models have to say -- I find letting them express themselves works best. Try not to compromise your objectives. Listen to constructive criticism and adjust accordingly. Practice, practice, practice. And most importantly be professional…or else you will never work with quality models.”

The Staten Island-based photographer admits that even he does not know the secret formula to getting a Showcase image on OMP. “I haven’t a clue! I guess, it is the one image which, when viewed, causes nearly everyone to reflect and think ‘Damn, I wish I took that shot!’”

George wants to express his gratitude to the staff and administrators of One Model Place for supporting and encouraging both him and his work over the years. But now that his portfolio is completely filled, he is trying to figure out what his next step is. “I would like to thank OMP for giving me the forum to display my images and enabling me to interact with some really great photographers/models. However, I am not sure as to what to do now!”

Elyssa is the OMP Hot Model of the Week

Elyssa (OMP #18537) has been modeling since the age of 14, and has developed over the years into a talented young woman with exceptional poise and posing skills. She has proven that she has legs in the modeling industry -- and we aren't only referring to longevity. Elyssa's height and long legs have made her in high demand in fashion and glamour circles alike.

The California native got her start as a model when a friend of the family introduced her to a local photographer. “He had helped their daughter hook up with a good agency, and he got me started as well. I was very fortunate to have a manager that was also a photographer, so right away I was able to practice shooting and starting up my book. Later, I signed with a few agencies and worked with several new photographers.”

That first photographer, Tim Jahns (OMP Member #4467), has turned into a longtime collaborator and close friend over the course of her career. Elyssa relates that there are several benefits to working with the same photographer on a regular basis.

“It is as simple as trust. We trust each other's opinions and suggestions while beginning a new project. I get the feeling that I am not just a good subject, but part of a product of something that both parties are working hard to accomplish. It is not the job, but something that we are both helping each other work towards.”

Elyssa discovered One Model Place after realizing she needed more opportunity for work. “I needed to find a way to meet more people in the industry and get more experience in modeling, and after some advice and word-of-mouth I found the website. I have received a lot of jobs and met many photographers that I still work with today because of OMP. I have been able to add pictures to my book and gained experience in shooting in many different styles.”

When asked how she describes herself as a model, Elyssa half-jokingly replies, “Tall.” Then she continues, “In many ways I consider myself an actress, so modeling is a chance for me to be someone else. The wardrobe and makeup has never been something I would wear on a daily basis, but instead it is something that is part of the job. I feel I have a good work ethic, and I have always been professional.”

Some of her favorite credits include booking a part in an Aveeno commercial for body soap. “Even if the shooting wasn’t all fun -- which it was -- I enjoyed all the perks and food that were on the set. Otherwise, some of my favorite shoots are the ones that are edgy and different, not just wearing cute little skirts and shirts that show my midriff.”

Elyssa admits that she does not prepare a whole lot for her photo shoots. “There is not really that much to it. The day before the shoot, I try not to wear any makeup due to the fact that I will be wearing a pound of it the next day. Of course, I get plenty of rest the night before. Then again, I love to sleep anyway!”

During the photo shoots, she uses music and dance to help her pose. “Actually I just play music in my head, because after all, posing is just slow dancing. Also, I do try to put the focus on my legs, so the more angles I can give the better.”

The lovely, lithe beauty shares her opinions on the rewards and challenges of modeling. “The rewards are simple -- self-esteem and confidence. Growing up, it took a long time for me to get out of the awkward stage. Modeling really changed that by letting me see that I am unique and special. The challenge for me has been fitting modeling into my schedule. Being a full-time student for so long and working part-time, it has been a challenge to really keep my modeling career going because I don’t have that much free time. Once I am at a shoot, it is just the long hours that are taxing.”

She offers some helpful advice for models just starting out? “If you want really want to be a model, you have to put in the time. Not everyone gets discovered and is on a plane to Paris the next day. Modeling is tough when you are first starting out, so your patience and desire are really what keep you going.”

Missouri Photographer Jason Ruark Strives for High-End Glamour Success

Jason Ruark of Silver Dreams (OMP Member #91114) has worked as a photographer for the last five years. He got his start in photography as a favor to a friend. "I knew a model who was not receiving good treatment by agencies or photographers. As a favor, I shot some images of her for a job submission. The images that were submitted allowed the model to obtain the job. She was ecstatic and asked me if I would do all of her future shoots! So I jumped in with out any knowledge of the business and taught myself not only photography and how to be an effective agent."

His favorite style of shooting is high-end glamour. "I feel there is an art to taking a picture that leaves your audience captivated and desiring more. I believe that any image that is sexy, provocative, suggestive, and alluring -- while retaining class and morality -- is an awesome image. You give them just enough to wonder if they are going to see more in the next image or just enough to keep them coming back for more while not sacrificing your morality."

Jason points out that since each model is different, they usually have different ideas on what is artistic or how they look in a
photo. "The number one key to a good image is a comfortable model. If the model is not comfortable in her outfit or her settings, you're not going to get a good image. I spend at least 30 minutes with a model in a public area where she can ask any questions or concerns he or she has. I also give them information about me, and give them a feel for what I look for and how I work. Essentially I break the ice and get acquainted with them on more of a personal level."

The Missouri resident relates that the inspiration behind his work are the smiles and excitement his clients gets from the images he takes. "I thrive to see everyone happy with the end result -- the joy of knowing that my clients or subjects or fans loves a particular image, and the fact that I can produce something for someone that not everyone else can. And I am always striving to be better, I want to be a well known magazine photographer or free lance publication photographer. Either way I want to be a household name in the international industry."

Jason discovered One Model Place through one of the models he worked with. "OMP is the largest online model community and has been a great resource for networking. The OMP email system makes contacting a model or client very easy and productive. The tools that are available with a Platinum Account makes my job so much easier. Anyone who is not a OMP member simply is cheating themselves out of a efficient tool that would better their carrer as either a photographer or a model."

To Jason, all the models he has worked with are all are unique and special in their own way. "Each model has a certain style that makes them the model they are. I have a lot of respect for the models I work with, for some people who look at this industry its appears to be a easy job or profession, but it's harder than it looks and there are a lot of behind the scenes preparations that many people do not see or even know about. I have a lot of respect for anyone who models, they really work hard."

His advice to beginning photographer is simple and straightforward. "Do what you love. Do not try to copy or mimic other photographers. Create your own style, that way you can express yourself as an artist. You can, however, find someone’s work you like and ask them for any helpful information from them that will help you. Don’t spend money on classes that are overpriced -- use that money to buy equipment!"

Michael Smith’s Carbon Graphx Creates Dreamstates with OMP Models

Michael Smith of Carbon Graphx (OMP Member #111038) started taking photographs when his parents gave him a Kodak Bellows camera as a kid, and he’s been shooting ever since.

“My true interest in photography began when I actually noticed the world around me. The fact that I could alter that view by manipulating the image in the chemicals and in the printing process made me feel like I could control my viewpoint. Now, with the advent of digital photography, my creative world is unfettered. I am now able to change the captured image of the world around me and bend it to my twisted artistic viewpoint.”

Although he shoots a variety of styles, Michael’s favorite subjects have all been female. “I enjoy shooting women, without thought of style. Shooting a woman who is relaxed, confident and experienced really is a pleasure. I feel I am just capturing what's in front of me and the skill is really in the model. I shoot many things in our business -- but shooting women is my favorite.”

He believes a successful shoot starts with communication. “You need to be honest, direct and to-the-point with the model. Allow the model to relax in the thoughts that you discuss with her, and let her become the image you are trying to capture. Then the added elements of her personality will serve as the cherry on the top.”

Michael’s casting process helps match the model with the theme. “The concept of the shoot is never set in stone – they will change within the shoot and with the models as we work. The final image will be determined by both what the model does with my thought and my abilities to capture the image. But the model is truly the artist. My photo-editing concepts can be described in one word: dreamstates.”

His choice to join One Model Place came after doing much research online. “I settled on One Model Place after carefully searching online for the most professional, well-run site I could find. OMP has become a home for my portfolio and a place to network. The direction suggested by the mods and many other members have helped sharpen my artistic efforts. Until I found OMP, it was a hit-and-miss situation for me -- locating models, talking to them before the shoots, etc. Thanks to OMP, I was able to work with one of the best visual artists, Jeffrey Scott 1019 (OMP Member #25854) who is a phenomenal artist and a direct, to the point Mentor. I owe much to One Model Place.”

He feels that his luck with OMP models has been pretty solid, noting that they seem to take photo shoots seriously. “I have shot many OMP models, all of whom were professional and self-motivated. All of the OMP models I have used are highly recommended and have given me many wonderful images.” Some of his favorites include:

-- “Colette (OMP Model #269439) was an unknown for me at first, because of her age… my wife talked me into shooting her and I have never regretted it. Colette is professional, sweet and very instinctive, fun to shoot and a wicked sense of humor. Also, her mom is very supportive.”

-- “Tavia (OMP Model #41145) spent weeks shooting with me. She is professional, competent, a photographer's dream if there ever cold be one.”

-- “Cassandra (OMP Model #285186) was my introduction through OMP to a truly professional model. She is exotic, totally comfortable, self-motivated and able to fulfill any photographers theme or idea for a photographic shoot."

West Coast-based Michael relates that he is “endlessly” traveling for photo assignments. “My job takes me around the world – including Asia, Europe, South America, Canada, Mexico, and Cuba. So many beautiful women, so little time! We are an entertainment industry-based company, so we work with many studios, pre and post-production houses, the exhibition industry, and other venues. My photography is intertwined throughout our business.”

His advice for photographers just starting out is straightforward. “Always make the image mirror your artistic viewpoint – a rule hammered home by 1019. And keep on shooting as long as it is fun!“

Hot Model of the Day Lexi Lights Up the Chicago Modeling Scene

Lexi (OMP Model #332608) has only been posing for photos for about two years, but once you see her portfolio, you know you are looking at a seasoned professional with presence and poise.

The tall, intense teen got her start in modeling while accompanying a friend to a photo shoot in her hometown of Chicago. The photographer her friend was shooting with is now Lexi's manager, John Kramer of JLK Images (OMP Member #8452).

Being a model in Chicago is a lot of fun, Lexi relates."There are so many amazing photographers that I have worked with, and it seems like there are an endless amount of them because I am always meeting new ones in the city. I say the same thing about Chicago models. There are some gorgeous women in Chicago, which only makes you keep yourself in better shape because the competition is so fierce!"

Lexi describes herself as very outgoing and versatile. "I love trying out new concepts and modeling is definitely a great way of expressing yourself. IÂ like doing artistic nudes. I have always been comfortable with my body and a big fan of art so it came pretty naturally to me. I think women's bodies are sexy, I love the curves and the art of it. I also really enjoy new ideas that are a little bit more edgy."

She does point out that there are some challenges to shooting nudes. "Making them look classy or artsy without looking trashy/porn-like can be difficult. That may be what some people go for, but my particular taste is more artistic."

Her penchant for doing nudes led her to getting noticed by the staff at Playboy."I submitted photos to Playboy, and they invited me to schedule an appointment for the Chicago casting. After the casting I was really nervous because they were only choosing 10 girls to be in the top group out of the hundreds that showed up. So I was so relieved when I got the email that my pictures were going to be featured on their Cyber Club. As of right now, Playboy is still traveling the country doing other castings, but I am confident that great things will come from being in the Chicago Top 10."

One Model Place has been a fan of Lexi's since she joined the site, and according to her, the feeling is mutual. "OMP was the first -- and best -- modeling site that I signed up with. My manager had a profile and so did every other model I came across. So I checked it out and loved it. Everything was so easy and fun on the site!"

OMP has helped Lexi promote her career in many ways. "I have booked so many jobs through OMP. The way the site is set up makes it so easy for photographer's to check me out, and for me to visit their profiles. I love the direct messages that get sent to my email. It is so convenient!"

The beautiful blond offers some advice for models just starting out in the business. "I would tell beginning models to definitely start a page with OMP. You can join for free, but eventually you're going to want at least a Silver Level membership. You come up in a lot more searches, and you can add more photos of yourself, which is what people are going to want to see before they book you!"

As for models who want to shoot nudes, Lexi encourages them to go for it. "A woman's body is really a beautiful thing, and it's nothing to be ashamed of. If you are comfortable with yourself and with taking off your clothes, then make sure you do it the way you want to!"

Lexi's future goals as a model are an indication that she is serious about making a name for herself in the industry. "My current project is working my way into Playboy and soon after that I would like to book some high fashion runway assignments. I think one benefit of being a model is traveling, so I'm hoping to take advantage of that by trying to do some more of it this year. Modeling is a lot of fun for me and it is something that I am going to keep striving to be better at until it's no longer fun for me, which I don't see happening anytime soon!"

Carlotta is the OMP Hot Model of the Day!

Having worked in the industry for the past six years, Carlotta (OMP Model #149902) is an experienced model who instantly transforms anyone’s images into works of art. Her unique diversity allows her to work in a variety of styles and fit into many different categories.

“I have modeled for many genres of work -- fine art, glamour, beauty, lingerie, even fetish! I think I would call myself an erotic model because I seem to present a hint of sexuality in all of my images, no matter how reserved I may try to be. My favorite genre to model for is fine art nudes because I feel that it is my most natural state, and I achieve a sense of satisfaction from knowing I am inspiring someone to create true art.”

Fans of Carlotta can meet the model at Glamourcon, an industry convention that will be held in Chicago on August 15-16 and Los Angeles on Nov. 14-15. “I have attended the Chicago Glamourcon every year since I made it into the pages of Playboy. I find it is a great way to become connected with fans, and make contacts within the industry.” For more details, visit www.glamourcon.com.

The Florida resident was posing for some local artists and friends involved in the arts when she decided to take her hobby to the next level. “A photographer and a model both mentioned I should check out OneModelPlace.com. The site helped launch me from an amateur to a well-known working model.”

Promoting herself on OMP has been very helpful to Carlotta’s success. “Within 24 hours of signing up, I was literally overwhelmed with emails, and then a career blossomed from there! The travel notices on the site help me find work when I'm on the road, the atmosphere is overall very professional, and the contacts I have made with the people on the site are endless.”

Her favorite assignments include being published in Playboy Magazine. “I've been fortunate enough to shoot many times for Playboy. They are a wonderful company. I think I am most proud of getting the cover of a book called 'My Favorite Model,' as it features over 40 amazing models. To be chosen for the cover is just incredibly flattering.”

It seems like everything in Carlotta’s life revolves around photoshoots. “To prepare, I get my nails done, my hair done, and look for new wardrobe. The whole process of being prepared takes weeks! I don't generally work locally, so I have to schedule flights, book hotels, rent cars -- it’s a huge ordea. Showing up and modeling is the easy part!”

Well, not that easy. Some of the positions Carlotta finds herself in are more difficult that they appear. “I always have to make sure my facial expressions correspond well with my body positioning. Sometimes a pose can really hurt, and you have to be aware that your face still needs to look at ease.”

She does feel that the good parts of modeling outweigh the bad for the most part. “I get to travel, meet amazing artists from all over the world, and the money doesn't hurt either! The whole process is challenging, though! Being away from home for weeks at a time, pushing your body into wild yoga poses, being sore frequently. Although the job seems glamorous, there is a lot of work involved!”

Her advice for models just starting out includes “being professional, honoring your commitments, and showing up on time.”

Fashion Photographer Christopher Makris Leaves a Lasting Impression

Christopher Makris (OMP Member #4773) has worked as a professional photographer for over 25 years, primarily in the fields of fashion, beauty, and travel. The native of Greece has extensive experience collaborating with high fashion models, world-renowned designers, and top makeup artists and stylists. Now living in the South Florida area, he divides his time between editorial shoots, runway shows, live concerts, and public events. To see Christopher’s online portfolio, visit www.onemodelplace.com/cmfoto.

Photography is a full-time job for Christopher. “My primary focus these days is fashion and beauty. I get my inspiration mainly from female beauty combined with gorgeous garments and amazing lighting.” Christopher’s recent projects include magazine and newspaper assignments as well as serving as lead photographer for a Miami charity event that featured Agent Provocateur lingerie and celebrities as runway models.

Being focused is one mark of a great photographer, according to Christopher. “You really need to be good at focusing on all the details that go into a photo shoot. For beginning photographers my advice is to simply focus on whatever style you are best at, and go for it!” Christopher feels the main challenge photographers face these days is to satisfy the clients’ needs.

Christopher’s definition of the perfect model is “someone who has the height and beauty to stand out in the industry.” He suggests that models getting started in the industry learn what styles of modeling suit them best. “Depending on your physique and facial features, it is important for beginning models to determine which type of modeling they are right for, whether it be runway, print, fashion, or glamour bookings.”

The first camera Christopher used was a Minolta, but nowadays he works exclusively with Nikon equipment. “I am not a diehard fan of any particular brand, because I feel that it is not the camera that gets a great image, but the photographer.”

Christopher relates a memorable experience that he had during a runway show. “Photographers were permitted to be up on the runway shooting, however, when I got up there the runway collapsed and I fell through to the floor. Everyone saw me and people were taking pictures of me instead of the models!”

Autumn Wishes You a Happy, Sexy Summer!

Autumn (OMP Model #295792) has been modeling for two years, and she got her start on One Model Place. “I hadn't done any real modeling until I joined OMP. Once I set up my portfolio, local photographers wrote me wanting to set up shoots, so I just went for it and found out it's something I love to do. I was inspired to try to make great images when I saw the photographers' pages and other models' amazing portfolios, and I'm still trying!”

In addition to fashion and beauty, this New Haven, Connecticut resident has a penchant for artistic nudes. “One of Autumn’s favorite things about nude modeling is it allows her to work with new and creative people and getting to try new things. I also love being nude in nature -- it's liberating!”

Autumn has no specific future goals as a model, but she definitely has a positive outlook. “I'm just seeing where it takes me and having fun along the way.” She does, however, have some suggestions for other young models starting out. “Modeling is all about attitude, no matter who you are. So just have fun, relax, experiment, and be safe.”

You can also check out Autumn on her personal website www.autumnmodel.com.

Isabella is Today's Hot Model

Isabella (OMP Model #312637) is a breath of fresh air on a hot summer day -- gorgeous as all get out but also down-to-earth and accessible. She makes a great new addition to our OMP Hot Model of the Day gallery.

This New York-based beauty has been modeling since she was 18 years old. She relates, "I really enjoy modeling because I am a very artistic person. My favorite photographers are creative, intuitive, and out of the ordinary. I lean towards images that are eye-catching instead of the ones you could see any day."

Her nationality is 1/2 Native American (Seneca tribe) and 1/2 German, and she calls herself a "true chameleon. I can pull of any hair color, and clothing style, and any style of modeling. If I haven't tried a style before, I will give 110% effort to pull it off. If you have any ideas of something new for me to try, please let me know, because I get tired of repeating similar styles. I'm always looking for ways to change my look and style to create a truly diverse portfolio."

Jannah is OMP's Hot Model of the Day

Just Jannah (OMP Model #74943) is more than just a pretty girl -- she is an accomplished model who has been modeling since she was 18. She would have started earlier, but she didn’t have access to One Model Place before then. “My mother finally got a computer in our house when I turned 18, and I started researching modeling information because it was something I had always wanted to pursue. That’s when I found OMP and it all began.”

This Texas beauty has in a short time filled her resume with many impressive credits, including Playboy and Mystique Magazine. “I am very into what I do. It's a passion, a hobby, and an enjoyment -- not a job! There is nothing like two creative spirits coming together to create something beautiful.”

She has a full checklist when preparing for photo shoots and assignments. “I do everything from tanning to hair, nails, wardrobe, make-up, exercise, diet… you name it!”

Jannah relates that the modeling lifestyle does come with its share of rewards and challenges. “The rewards include a lot of traveling -- usually I don't even get to unpack before I'm headed somewhere else! Also the awesome images that are created, and getting to meet some really cool people. But there are also some challenges, including lonely nights in hotel rooms away from your family.”

Speaking of family, Jannah is a working mom with two young children. “It has definitely been challenging starting a family so young in the middle of my dream. But I wouldn't have it any other way. I have the best of both worlds, and not too many can say the same!”

As for advice for models just starting out, Jannah offers, “Make sure it's something you really want because it will take a dedication like no other. You must live and breathe this industry, or you will lose your chance to a girl who will.”

Jannah is grateful to One Model Place for helped her get where she is at, “OMP is mega! Everything started here. One word – networking!”

Inspirational Art Model Anne is a Muse to Many

Ohio resident Anne (OMP Model #334021) has only been modeling a year and a half, but you couldn't tell from her amazing portfolio of images. Her lovely look -- as seen in the amazing photo by Tom deLombarde of Point Source Photography (OMP Member #7197) -- makes her the muse of choice for artistically-inclined photographers.

This willowy brunette got her start on One Model Place after being told many times that she could be a model. "I did a little research, found OMP, posted some self-taken pics, and stared getting jobs. I got my first shoot from One Model Place, so OMP was definitely the jumpstart of my career!"

While she admits that she really doesn't think of herself as a model, others in the industry would tend to disagree. "I think I'm pretty versatile and open-minded. I tend to shoot alot of artistic nude and glamour nude shoots. And I've worked with a lot of wonderful photographers!"

Anne likes to prepare for a photo shoot using relaxation methods. "I really just try to relax. I don't have to mentally prepare or anything like that. I eat light, make sure I have some ideas in mind, and just relax." During shoots, she concentrates on the concept and emotion of each shot, as well as body and hand placement.

Her advice for models just starting out is very specific. "Have a clear vision of what types of images you won't shoot, and don't be coerced into anything you're not comfortable with. Check references! And don't be a diva! Remember, you're a new model... so be open to shooting TFP with decent photographers and working at building your portfolio. Don't expect to get paid right away."

She points out the rewards and challenges of modeling. "One of the rewards is definitely producing great images. Being able to be creative and collaborate with amazing artists. The challenges include the long hours that are sometimes required... being away from my son and husband when I travel is difficult."

Model Marisa is a True Teen Talent

Marisa aka GreenEyesDiva (OMP Model #321459) is a 16-year-old model from Florida. Modeling for over three years, she has a wide range of experience in the industry.

While Marisa’s main focus is on commercial and fashion assignments, she has recently branched out to more creative ventures. “One of my recent photo shoots was in the OMP Studio in Fort Lauderdale. I got to wear some crazy outfits -- it was the best time I have had on a shoot.”

She travels a lot for her career, both in and out of state. “I have worked in California with some amazing photographers that gave me some amazing photos. I have also shoot in Georgia and all over Florida.”

This talented teen decided to try modeling after seeing her sister become successful at it, “I love the process of taking pictures and preparing for shoots. I just love being in front of the camera.”

She is grateful to One Model Place for helping her to get more images for her portfolio, and allowing her to not only meet wonderful photographers and agents but also to make some good friends in the industry.

Citing Brooke Shields as a role model, Marisa offers some of her own advice for models who are just starting out, “I would tell new models to just be yourself and work hard and never give up on your dreams.”

Tennessee Teen Karina Ashley Focuses On Her Modeling Goals

Karina Ashley (OMP Model #307377) has been modeling for two years, and can't imagine doing anything else.

She prefers photo assignments where there is a challenge involved. “My favorite shoots are the ones that are different. I am definitely a bit of a risk taker. I had a shoot in late March and I was so ready to shoot outside, so we went to a natural springs and took bathing suit shots. Everyone of course was saying it was too cold -- it was only about 55 degrees outside – but I did not care, I got in anyway! We got some awesome images and even got a showcase on one of them. So it was worth it to me to do the not-so-pleasant shoot sometimes, if you end up producing an image that shows your determination.”

The Tennessee teen relates that One Model Place has helped her showcase her work and develop as a model. “I have gotten to meet some amazing models and photographers through OMP as well.”

Karina has gotten a lot of recognition from top agencies such as Ford and Ikon, as well as several other companies. Her future goals in modeling are to pursue editorial assignments and walk the runways for top designers in New York and Milan.

Here are Karina’s excellent suggestions for other young models trying to break into the business. “My advice to other young models is stay focused on your goals. Take care of your body, skin, and hair. Practice your posing. Network and use OMP to get out there and meet new photographers and models. Get as much time in front of the camera as you can -- that is where you will learn the most.”

She has a few final optimistic observations. “Have confidence in yourself! Modeling is way more than a beautiful face -- it is about showing your personality. And remember -- OMP makes it very easy to network, leave comments, and get the photographers to notice you.”

OMP Members We Have Lost: Robert Warren

It is with deep regret that One Model Place announces the passing of several of its members. We will be honoring their memories in the weeks to come.

Robert Warren (OMP Member #122084) of Bellewood Studio in Allentown, PA was born in 1944 and passed away last month. He is remembered by his friends as a brave Marine, a high school teacher, and photographer for over 30 years. Bob owned a photography studio and a photo store in NJ, where he worked with local magazines and enjoyed auto racetrack photography.

For the last five years, Bob moved to other photography styles and started to shoot models and fashion photography. He enjoyed going on the St. Thomas Islands for different modeling workshops or on his own shoots with different models. His friend Gerald Patenaude recalls, "Bob's heart problems never stopped him from what he enjoyed the most -- photography was his medicine. He tried a heart transplant, which was unsuccessful. Thank you OMP for allowing us to continue his work and take care of his online portfolio. He will be deeply missed."

According to Gerald, Bellewood Studio will continue to exist as a promise to Bob. For all the models who have worked with Bob, or started portfolios and have questions, send an email to bellewoodstudio@gmail.com.

OMP members can revisit Bob's portfolio and appreciate his artistry: OMP Member #122084

Luana Sizzles as OMP's Hot Model of the Day

Luana OMP Model #155259 is a marvelous model originally from Hawaii who currently resides in Southern California. This petite powerhouse has been modeling professionally for five years, ever since she turned 18, and is a fan favorite in the glamour photography industry.

She got her start as a model back in Hawaii. "I was shooting with local photographers, trying to build my portfolio and make some money. One Model Place was there since the beginning of my career, and I booked a lot of work just by posting images on my profile and responding to some of the modeling inquiries coming in. Then I met David of ModFXModels.com and started my own website, which allowed me to build a fanbase."

One of the busiest working models in the business, Luana reveals some of her favorite modeling assignments. "Modeling for Mystique Magazine has been my favorite assignment by far. They have flown me out to exotic places such as Tahiti, St. Vincent & the Grenadines, and Kauai. I've always enjoyed being in front of Mark Daughn's camera because he is just a genius when it comes to bringing out the best in models, and his lighting is impeccable. Shooting for Playboy also helped me gain recognition in the glamour industry."

Playboy came calling on Luana after seeing her on One Model Place. "OMP was the largest model networking site back when I started, and it's still the largest today. I actually booked my Playboy shoot from OMP! There are many industry professionals here, so being active in the online community really puts your face out there."

Luana offers some great advice for other models who want to get their careers jump-started. "Figure out what type of modeling you are most interested in. Ask yourself what styles are you best suited for. Find your strengths, and then focus on highlighting them. It's important to showcase your special unique qualities. Of course, you also want to show your versatility as a model. Finally, be sure to think over your decisions carefully and remember to give yourself a little reality check once in a while."

Heather Sizzles as OMP's Hot Model of the Day

Heather OMP Model #74727 has been modeling for the past 7 years. She got her start by going to a modeling school, but soon after got a big revelation. "I realized that with a little work and doing some TFPs I could be where I am today without investing in modeling schools."

Having started as a youth model, Heather likes to describe herself as a wholesome model with a lot of versatility and range. She tries to maintain that versatile nature as she has grown into a woman. "The transformation for me was relatively easy. I have managed to keep a youthful look with a bit of an edge."

The California girl loves out of the box photo shoots with over the top wardrobe and makeup. "My most memorable shoot was the mermaid images I did with photographer Dave Feiling OMP Member 3407 . The styling was an adventure. It all started by roaming the beach and collecting just the right pieces of seaweed for 'coverage.' Then we were off to a fish market to take pictures of a real fish tail to Photoshop into the picture. It was a ton of fun and the pictures came out awesome!"

She takes extra care to be prepared for each photo shoot. "I always plan out my clothing and everything I need the day before so I can have the morning to think about what I need to do for the shoot that day. I bring a positive attitude, ready to shoot."

Heather enjoys modeling in South California for several reasons. "You can't beat the weather and with the variety of locations and scenery, the possibilities are endless. And then there is the advantage of having a lot of very talented stylists, MUAs, and photographers to work with in the area."

Heather doesn't remember how she first heard of One Model Place, which she says "makes me feel old!" She does recall how much the site has helped her achieve her career goals. "OMP has been invaluable for my career by providing me with exposure to wonderful photographers and models all over the country who are willing to help me gain more experience."

Heather suggests that beginning models resist the urge to get high expectations right away. "If you are just starting out as a model, you'll need a lot of patience. Anything worthwhile doesn't come quickly. Also, don't be discouraged by the rejection, it may be that your look just isn't right for a given job, but will be perfect for the next one. Always try to raise the bar on the quality of work you do. Don't be afraid to say 'No' if a project won't benefit your career in a positive way."

For young models who grow up in the business like Heather did, she offers the following piece of advice. "Know the market you are trying to pursue and keep your focus. Networking is invaluable, you never know when or who may be your avenue to success."

Amanda Redd is On the Attack and In the Grapevine!

Los Angeles-based model Amanda Redd (OMP Model #267294) has two new projects that are sure to boost her profile in the modeling world. First, she is being featured on the G4 network’s “Attack of the Show” in their sexy “Women of the Web” segment. Her episode begins airing on Thursday, April 9th. Coming in May, she will be featured in Playboy Magazine in their notorious Grapevine section.

Modeling for the past several years, Amanda first got her start when a good friend started doing photography under the name Blue Lotus Art ( OMP Member 184708 ) and asked her to pose for some photos. Since then, she has graced the cover of OMP’s SNAP! and Birmingham Shops magazine

Amanda relates that One Model Place has helped her find exposure in the industry as well as multiple modeling assignments. She enjoys assignments where she can travel to exotic places like Hawaii and Puerto Rico. Lately, she has been getting booked as an underwater model with Broder Photography ( OMP Member 4703 ).

The opportunity to appear in Playboy’s Grapevine section was the result of a photo shoot with Alabama photographer dK ( OMP Member 4703 ). “Josh Robertson, an editor at Playboy in NYC, contacted me about using one of the images I shot with dK that he'd seen. I really appreciated that Josh asks the model's permission to publish the image, even if she does not have the rights to said image.”

The opportunity to be showcased on “Attack of the Show” was through a more personal connection. “My boyfriend Eric Campos and Chris Gore have worked together for a long time on filmthreat.com. I started doing photography and I wanted to do a shoot with Chris and my Eric wearing some of my modeling clothes... which we did (needless to say it's hilarious and I hope to make a book out of the series and give the proceeds to a GLT organization). I told Chris I was a huge fan of ‘AOTS’ so he brought me along to a taping of the show. We ran into the producer of the ‘Women of the Web’ segment, I gave him my card... and the rest is history. Basically, it was a case of being in the right place at the right time... and of course following the producer on Facebook so that he wouldn't forget about me.”

Amanda offers some advice for other models who want to promote themselves. “Network, network, network. And never be afraid to ask... the worst that could happen is you get a ‘no.’”

OMP Pro-File: Photographer Scott Church

Scott Church (OMP Member #6995) has worked as a professional photographer for almost 20 years, or as he puts it, “Longer than a good number of models on your site have been alive! Damn, do i sound grizzled or what?”

The Pennsylvania resident is a Desert Storm combat vet who started his career as a photographer for the US Navy. Today, he specializes in fine art glamour portraits and nudes. He relates, “I shoot people almost exclusively. They have been my passion and the subject of my artwork for my entire career.”

Scott’s portfolio displays a great variety of both color and black & white images. “Each image has its own story to tell. Sometimes an image just works better without the color complicating it, and sometimes the color finishes it all. I just look at the shot both ways, and whatever I think works best for the shot is the final choice.”

As far as prep time, Scott says he usually doesn’t know what each client looks like till they walk through the studio door. “I love that moment of anticipation! It's a good feeling to know that no matter what I'm presented with, I will do my best and make them happy. My makeup artist/assistant Sara is my rock -- she is the one that breaks down all the walls with new clients. But I have never been a big pre-planning guy. I shoot from the hip all day long.”

Because he travels so much, One Model Place has helped Scott book shoots ahead of time. “OMP's travel notifications have become a much-used commodity. In the past year alone, the notices have found me clients in New York, Washington DC, Florida, Atlanta, Chicago, South Carolina, Dallas, New Mexico, and three trips to London. Also, the notifications put my work in front of local models as well. It is an invaluable resource, and I have really made the most of using them.”

Scott’s first book of photography, entitled “thirty pieces of silver,” was published in 1999. Since then he has published five more books, including “trashglamour,” “good luck in hell,” revelation,” a retrospective book called "Infimis," and a book of male models called "men" which was released last year with a majority of the profits going to AIDS Charities in NYC. “I love the thought of knowing that I have truly created something that will outlive me, the minute the first one sells it is out there forever, and I have been very luck to have sold quite a few all over the world.”

He offers the following advice for photographers just starting out. “Shoot constantly, make mistakes, and learn from them. There is no real way to truly learn this job if you are not doing it everyday. Also, find places to show your work where people can comment on it, and take the critiques.” For photographers who want to get their work published, he cautions, “No one will publish your work if they don't get to see it. Submit, show, sell! The more people that get to see what you do, the more opportunities will present themselves.”

Scott has observed many changes in the industry over the years. “The industry is so much more open now than it was I got started. There are so many more opportunities given to beginners, so take advantage of all of them, and milk the system for all it's worth. If you want a career, make a career, no one will give it to you. There are much better photographers out there than me who don't have half the career that I do. I am who I am, and I have what I have because I work my ass off everyday to get it. I only compete with myself, and I try my best to kick my own ass all the damn time!”

“This is our second event with NyghtFalcon – the first one held in October of last year was very successful,” said Mr. Cramer.

“The opportunity to work at Belmont Estate affords us a unique environment in which photographers and models can work.”

“Belmont Estate has long been a favorite place for us to work. It is both beautiful and challenging,” said Falcon.

”There is no doubt that this event will be a unique experience for models and photographers. We are grateful to Charlie Adams, owner of Belmont, to Clint Stringer, Belmont’s General Manager, and to OMP for its support in this and future events we are jointly planning.”

Built at the turn of the early 19th century, Belmont has been painstakingly restored. Located in Reidsville, Belmont’s dramatic portico stands on the knoll of a hill overlooking the city below.

Eighth and Over

By John Fisher OMP Member 3327

It's the end of an era here in South Beach. As of Friday the 13th, the (late) great Irene Marie agency is no more.

Back in the day, two small agencies moved from the Miami area to South Beach. In those days, this took some foresight, South Beach was a rough place, probably the most dangerous area of Miami. Drug gangs, run down seedy hotels, and blue haired old ladies dominated the landscape. Think "Scarface" (most of it actually shot in South Beach), that's what South Beach was like. When they were shooting episodes of Miami Vice (1984 to 1989) in South Beach, the buildings were so run down they were often repainted to make the show look more appealing. But all of that changed when Irene Marie and Michele Pommier moved to the beach.

About that time, A young girl from Fort Lauderdale walked into Irene Marie's office, and at 14 the sun didn't set on Niki Taylor. The rush was on, and before you knew it, Ford had opened an office on Ocean Drive at the News Cafe, then Elite followed opening in the Marlin Hotel on Collins Avenue. Michele Pommier had a building 81 Washington Avenue in those days. There has always been a dispute over whether Michele or Irene moved from Miami to South Beach first, it doesn't matter, both were responsible for the resurrection of the Beach. When I first came to South Beach (February, 1997) Irene Marie had the better known agency outside of South Florida (because of Niki), but Michele Pommier was considered the best agency for women locally.

In 1993, flush with the success of Niki Taylor and the potential of Niki's younger sister, Krissy, Irene opened offices in Atlanta and New York ("IM New York"? A name unlikely to ingratiate yourself with the tough New York crowd!). Unfortunately with a number of unexpected problems (including the unfortunate and unexpected death of Krissy Taylor due to heart failure), Irene had to close the New York office and rebuild her agency in South Beach. Still, she took her shot and I give Irene her props for making the bold move.

By the late '90s a combination of higher costs (as South Beach became more popular), unfavorable exchange rates (the dollar soared against the Euro), and the simple fact that South Beach was no longer the "hot new place" made other winter locations (such as Cape Town, South Africa) increasingly more attractive to the magazine and catalog crowd. Then came 9/11, 2001 was a difficult year for everyone here in South Beach. By 2003 things were on the upswing again, the fact that we had an established infrastructure (labs, studios, production companies, and for 5 months the most beautiful weather in the world!) brought back the Europeans, particularly the Germans (who love South Beach).

Unfortunately all things eventually come to an end. For many years have I recommended Irene Marie first as an agency any new model should consider here in Miami. But the struggling world wide economy has taken it's toll, and one of the grand dames of South Beach is no more. Irene Marie will be missed. Eighth and Ocean is now Eighth and Over.

The hand having writ, moves on.

Tantalizing Texan Jessie is OMP's Latest Hot Model of the Day!

Tantalizing Texan Jessie is our OMP Hot Model of the Day -- http://www.onemodelplace.com/member.cfm?ID=176980

See below for an exclusive interview with Jessie!

If you want to be considered for Hot Model of the Day, simply send your name and OMP ID# to newseditor@onemodelplace.com!

Jessie OMP Model #176980 has accomplished a lot in the past few years since she started modeling. She made the top three in the OMP Bikini Model of the Year competition, as well as participated in an exclusive photo shoot with the site. In addition to her other modeling assignments, she had a beauty spread in the magazine MEME2.

This busy Texan balances her datebook the best way she knows how - by prioritizing. "It is difficult, but I try to keep priorities in line. School, modeling, then work!"

As soon as she turned 18, Jessie began doing promotional modeling because she felt comfortable interacting with people. "After getting my headshot taken for a promotions team I was working for, I realized my talent for being in front of the camera. My passion for the industry encouraged me to keep strengthening my ability to pose and convey personality to the camera."

Her preparation for any photo shoot begins with a style session. "The first thing I do is determine the styling for the shoot. I love to use my creativity to put together the wardrobe, depending on the clients' needs. I try to provide my clients with many options regarding wardrobe. Next of course is to shower up and be sure my hair and skin are clean and manageable for the styling team. Then I gather my things and leave early enough to get a bite to eat and still arrive at the studio 15 minutes early."

Jessie's future goals include modeling and acting. "I hope to excel in my acting and one day be a part of a comedy series such as 'Desperate Housewives' or 'Friends.' Then I hope to grace the covers of magazines telling my story of how I got there."
Her background as a model helps Jessie in her acting pursuits. I love becoming someone else when the camera is rolling! I have learned how to express emotions that I am not necessarily feeling in print, and I know that is a necessity in film!"

Her inspirations as a model include a popular and very un-desperate "Housewife." "One of my inspirations is Eva Longoria. She is not only a great actress but she is a model as well. She gives me hope because she is very petite and short like I am."

During a shoot, Jessie reminds models to "concentrate on your angles and positioning in comparison to the photographer's camera angle." She would also like to tell models to follow their own path to success rather than listening to others. "Do not conform to someone else's version of you."
